Akeneo has released what it calls the first truly agentic product experience platform, shifting its Product Cloud from a passive system of record to one where AI agents coordinate tasks for users. The company’s Summer Release introduces Agentic Ziggy, a new interface layer named after Akeneo’s hydra mascot, designed to manage fleets of specialized AI agents that handle product data enrichment, governance, and orchestration.

Product discovery is shifting toward agentic algorithms — where AI agents search and recommend on behalf of shoppers — making product data a primary asset for brands, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Traditional product information management systems can’t keep up with the speed and complexity this new discovery model demands.

How Agentic Ziggy works

Agentic Ziggy acts as an orchestration layer, coordinating a virtual workforce of AI agents across the product data lifecycle. These agents handle tasks ranging from data modeling and schema mapping to enrichment and quality checks. The idea is to let product data teams deploy this workforce to collaborate with them, rather than replacing human decision-making.

Use cases include a merchandiser using an enrichment agent to transform product visuals across channel variants in seconds, a syndication manager using a channel agent to simplify complex retailer errors into actionable guidance, or a catalogue team deploying a data quality agent to run continuous completeness checks across millions of SKUs. They say the system eliminates the traditional trade-off between speed and data integrity.

This shift mirrors earlier transitions in enterprise software, where systems of record gradually became systems of action — though the speed and scale of AI-driven commerce may accelerate this cycle. Akeneo is betting that product data teams will need more than visibility; they’ll need automated execution with human oversight.

New capabilities in the Summer Release

The release includes three main features. First, “Ask and Act with Agentic Ziggy” lets users move from understanding product data challenges to executing improvements through natural language prompts, with governance controls and approval mechanisms built into every step. Second, “Intelligent Error Management” translates complex retailer syndication errors into clear, actionable guidance in the user’s language, eliminating the need for technical escalation. Third, “AI Asset Transformations” enables prompt-based AI image editing within Akeneo’s DAM, allowing teams to create color variants, background edits, and campaign adaptations using simple text commands.

Tiaan Heystek, Product Data Strategy Manager at Elemis, said, “Agentic Ziggy has been extremely helpful in making enrichment status and product information easier to understand and act on.” It helps them move beyond completeness alone by surfacing section-level readiness, finding the right information much faster than manual filtering and supporting complex updates that would otherwise require several rounds of extraction, review and upload preparation. Heystek added that as capabilities become more action-oriented, clear previews and explicit confirmation steps will be key to building trust.

Akeneo is a company that knows the importance of having the right team in place to make decisions about product data.

Enterprise governance and the road ahead

Akeneo emphasized that governance remains central. Agentic Ziggy includes role-based permissions, approval mechanisms, full visibility into agent actions, and a propose-and-approve model that ensures humans stay in control of decisions and data. Romain Fouache, the company’s CEO, noted that the platform combines 15 years of product data expertise with AI-assisted execution. “Agentic Ziggy combines 15 years of product data expertise with AI-assisted execution to help organizations scale product operations, respond faster to change, and unlock greater business value from their product data, all while maintaining the governance and trust enterprises expect,” Fouache said.

Andy Tyra, Chief Product Officer, said the organizations that succeed will be those that can continuously improve product experiences instead of periodically fixing them. The Summer Release is the first of several major investments Akeneo plans in agentic product operations throughout 2026. They are positioning the platform as a move from managing product information to operationalizing it — turning product data from a system of record into a system of action.

Using a system like this can help businesses to better manage their cash flow.
