Ahold Delhaize Details New Omnichannel Capability

Ahold Delhaize USA is expanding its omnichannel shopping capability through a fresh partnership with Pear Commerce, giving consumers a new method to populate their digital carts from third-party websites. The grocery company announced the integration on Wednesday, linking recipe and product discovery across five of its major U.S. brands.

Connecting Inspiration to Purchase

The new collaboration allows shoppers to transfer items directly into their Ahold Delhaize digital carts while browsing content on non-ADUSA platforms. This ranges from recipe pages on CPG partner websites to product-specific landing spots and store locator tools. The technology, provided by Pear Commerce, became available to customers of all five banners this month, marking a step forward in how the retailer connects media, content, and commerce.

This move follows a trend of ADUSA strengthening its e-commerce infrastructure beyond its own internal digital properties. The retailer has previously sought to bridge the gap between where shoppers find recipes and where they actually buy those recipes, utilizing various tools to keep users within its ecosystem. The latest effort with Pear Commerce formalizes these connections, allowing for a smoother transition from browsing content to adding items to the virtual basket.

Tracking Profitability and Adoption

E-commerce has become a significant growth driver for the broader Ahold Delhaize group. During the first half of 2025, the company reported achieving profitability on a fully allocated basis for its e-commerce operations, a milestone largely attributed to the progress of its omnichannel initiatives in the United States.

Before this latest update, the company rolled out a similar omnichannel feature in April known as Click2Cart. That earlier tool permitted users to add products directly from digital ads and social media feeds. The new Pear Commerce integration offers a different angle, focusing on the “inspiration” phase of shopping through brand-owned media and content sites.

Brand partners stand to benefit from this tighter integration as well. By enabling AD Retail Media investments to link more directly with shopping actions, CPG partners can reach shoppers at more decisive moments. The retail media space often struggles with conversion rates, so tools that reduce friction between viewing a product and buying it are viewed as essential for long-term viability.

“By creating more intuitive connections between inspiration and purchase, we’re helping shoppers move from discovery to cart with fewer steps, while unlocking additional opportunities for our CPG partners to engage shoppers in more meaningful and actionable ways,” said Keith Nicks, ADUSA’s chief commercial and digital officer.

The ability to add items to a cart without leaving a third-party site represents a shift in how digital advertising is structured. Historically, a user might see a product in a recipe article, click a link to the store, search for the item, and then add it to the cart. This new workflow collapses that sequence into a single action, which theoretically streamlines the path to purchase for busy households.

While the technical integration seems straightforward, the execution across five distinct brand banners requires significant backend alignment. Each banner operates with slightly different inventory and user interfaces, yet the Pear Commerce tool unifies them under a common functionality. This consistency is vital for a seamless customer experience, though it requires ongoing maintenance to ensure compatibility across various devices and browsers.
